I paint because I have to. I'm decidedly grumpy if I can't work on my art for a few days. Not just painting but planning, sketching, finding titles.
Boldly coloured art affects me emotionally and I want my paintings to have as strong an effect on audiences.
My colour choices make the works lush, vibrant, evocative - with an edginess, hinting at a story (or several) beyond the canvas. There is something new with each viewing, and the canvases are endlessly alive.
A few smaller works by YCS can be seen at Café Aurora, a quirky resto offering home cooking, a loveable if curmudgeonly owner, and a stimulating environment. Everything in the café is for sale: tables, chairs, art, sugar bowls, “antiques”.
Warning: the place is addictive. Thereis mental and visual stimulation, and always something appealing for the taste buds from breakfast through lunch to supper, tea on the terrace, ice cream. A hangout for writers and artists, karate kids, gardeners. Bonus: YCS biscotti are available there too!
